Cardrona Hotel Overview
Like something straight out of a beer commercial, this postcard-perfect historic pub hotel is an icon of the Queenstown region. As much a pub and restaurant as it is accommodation, the food and atmosphere in the bar are excellent. And the accommodations pretty decent for a 3-star country hotel too. So don’t just stop to take a photo of this iconic Hotel. Stay a night or two and experience its charms.
Rooms here are small with most around 20 sqm. However they also offer some slightly larger family rooms at 30 sqm with a queen and two single beds. This is a fun place to stop for a night but perhaps not the best place for a long stay. That said it’s reasonably priced and close to Cardrona ski field so if your reason for travelling to ski or snowboard at Cardrona then this could be just the place for a week or two! Perfect if you want to make first tracks, it’s 20 minutes closer than Wanaka.
Restaurants
Obviously Cardrona Hotel is an Iconic New Zealand Pub. They’ve been serving beers here since 1863, so they sure know how to pour a pint. They do a great steak as well. You will not go hungry at Cardrona Hotel.
Negatives
The rooms are pretty small. Cardrona is not Queenstown, other than the ski field and the pub you’ll find you’re driving to Queenstown or Wanaka a lot if you’re here for an extended stay. But it’s great for a night or two.
