Coronet Peak is the closest ski field to Queenstown. It’s been operating as a commercial ski area since 1947, making in New Zealand’s oldest ski field. But it’s anything but old fashioned. Coronet Peak was the first New Zealand ski field to offer regular night skiing. They’ve got a real party feel at night with DJs playing and drinks flowing, it’s a good time.
The smallest of the 4 ski fields in the area, with the only 280 hectares and 462m of vertical drop. But it’s a great place for kids and families to learn to ski or snowboard. They’ve got a 1/2 pipe and plenty of beginner and intermediate well groomed runs, plus some steeper stuff to keep more advanced skiers and boarders interested. Coronet Peak claims to be Queenstown’s local ski field, and it really is the most convenient, especially for a quick night ski after a days work.
The closest hotels are found in Arthurs Point. Swiss-Belresort Coronet Peak is great for groups and families, while Nugget Point is a more luxurious hotel suitable for couples. That said, Coronet Peak is the closest ski field to Queenstown so you really can stay anywhere in town.
