Regardless of your age or propensity for adventure, you have to go up the Skyline Gondola when you visit Queenstown. It’s a little terrifying if you don’t have a head for heights, but it’s totally worth it when you get to the top. The views are simply stunning. Pretty much every iconic photo of Queenstown you’ve ever seen was taken from the observation deck at the top of the gondola. Whether you are staying in best hotel in Queenstown or the cheapest, the Gondola should be on your list of must do activities.
Once at the top, there are activities for all tastes. The luge is a must-do for families and great fun for adults too, (especially if you’re competitive). If you like things a little more extreme, The Ledge Bungy and Swing and G Force Paragliding offer some serious thrills. In the summer months, the gondola provides access to Queenstown bike park, which offers superb mountain biking for all levels of rider. If you’re looking for something more sedate, there are stargazing tours (weather dependant of course), there’s also a range of hikes and walks.
If you prefer to stay inside, or you’re just hungry from all that excitement, Stratosphere Restaurant and Bar offers buffet dining (and/or a couple of drinks to steady the nerves for the ride down). This is a great place for couples on a romantic getaway. While the Market Kitchen Cafe offers more casual eats but the same stunning views.
